"Programmable people, made to order"

We were given a taste of what goes on in the Dollhouse in episode 1, but we get a deepened explanation in this next episode. This episode gives a twist about the corruption within the organization. Apparently, a doll named Alpha had some malfunctioning wiring and went berserk. This is the reason why one of the doctors had scars all over her face. A theory was that his memory wasn’t being blanked out every time, so he had a compiled amount of information still in his head.

Trust is a huge theme in this episode. A subtheme is how a person could feel as if they know someone so well, but then that person turns on them. This is shown in the episode when the “boyfriend”/ client turns on Echo and tries to hunt her down. This is obviously not a real relationship to him, since he paid a million dollars for a different girl, but Echo had no other knowledge in her head, other than thinking this man was her lover. This ties into real relationships. I have had multiple friends get totally blindsided by their significant other…cheating, dealing, or it turns out they’re gay. It happens. People change. Does it make it okay to hide this from your other? Not at all. Another instance of this sense of hardcore trust is that the boss of the Dollhouse allowed this man to take one of her dolls. I would have probably ran multiple tests on my clients before letting them take these multimillion dollar beauties.

"Actions have consequences"

This is a quote from within two minutes of the first episode of Dollhouse. People make decisions…and sometimes there were better routes they could’ve taken, yet after the decision has been made, they have to live with it. Bad decisions=bad outcomes. “Do the crime, do the time”. It’s all the same concept. In this case, the main character, Caroline, made a bad decision that led to severe consequences. She ran away from her problems…not an atypical thing to do. I would think that most people wouldn’t want to live their lives the same after such an incident, due to the fact that they’ll be reminded of it every day. Every once in a while, you’ll turn on the news to a high-speed car chase or a wanted for a criminal. These are the people I’m talking about. Those who don’t want to get caught, or arrested, or face up to their wrongdoings. Cowards, in my opinion.

“Nothing is what it appears to be”

First line=foreshadowing. You can look at this line and come up with several meanings.
Something can seem so simple from the outside, yet misleading. It’s like when your friends tell you to break up with your boy/girlfriend because they seem like they could hurt you…but no one REALLY knows the relationship other than the two people in it. Basically, this main character is giving her body up to an organization for five years, and she won’t be able to remember all of it. Seem simple, right? Here, take my body…see you in five years. But what actually goes on in this place? This is a line spoken by the boss, which possibly shows that she’s hiding information. This is a useful tactic in getting someone to do something you want.

This show shows a huge amount of corruption within the human mind. The investigator trying to discover the Dollhouse, Paul, says it perfectly. “No one has everything they want. It's a survival pattern. Once you get what you want, you want something else. If you have everything you want, you want something else. Something more dangerous, more exciting. Something perfect.” It’s an interesting concept. A new iphone is released every year, and people continue to be distressed after they buy the “new” one and another one is announced to be coming out next fall. Why? Why can’t people just settle?

Hey classmates,
For starters, I’m a first year here at OSU, working towards a pharmacy major. Like some of you, I’ve already changed my major titles multiple times…going from biology to biochem, finally ending up in pharmacy. I’m also a dance minor, so maybe right out of college when I have approximately 10 bucks in my wallet, I can teach in a local studio.
When it comes to other interests, I’m obsessed with going to concerts. I’ve attended 16 concerts since the first day of college. Some of these artists include: A Day to Remember, Ben Folds, Rebelution, Parachute, 30 Seconds to Mars, Neon Trees, New Politics, Ari Hest, and The Icarus Account. Music is a huge part of my life. If you have ANY suggestions, leave them for me. (*Good chance to get your comments in J) I listen to every type of music, including classical…only because of piano and violin lessons. Mostly, I listen to alternative and singer/songwriter, but my favorite type of concert is hard rock. The atmosphere is so intense, but fun at the same time. The only downfall: getting kicked in the shins and punched from moshing…and getting scratched from the crowd surfers above.
“She takes every one of her father’s attributes, yet only one of mine- she loves nature”.  This was my favorite quote from what I wrote today, simply because I’ve heard it multiple times growing up. Mother always called me a daddy’s girl. Not the spoiled type... just the type that looks and acts like her father. If only I could cook like him. That man…is an amazing cook.
